INSDAG 2019

20th Sep’19, Kolkata

India is a country with a population more than 133 crores. For a very big populated country large amount of food is required for filling the stomach of people and to store the food, godowns are made to give shelter to the food grain against natural phenomena. In India, food grain godowns are very much required due to monsoon season. The major components for food grain godown consist of food chambers and chiller chambers. It will also consist of a staff office, some electrical room, transformer room, and security offices at the gate. INSDAG wishes to provide most economical and aesthetically pleasing schemes and all relevant design and detail drawings thereof, to their client. Considering these criteria, we were appointed as a structural consultant for the project and have been asked to furnish structural solution for “Steel Intensive Innovative Food Grain Godown” for INSDAG (2018- 2019) civil design award competition.

Institute for Steel Development & Growth (INSDAG) is a not-for-profit, member-based organization established by the Government of India (Ministry of Steel) and Major Steel Producers of the Country in the year 1996 as a “Society” under Societies Registrations Act of West Bengal 1961.

Like every year, in 2019, they organised this National level structural design competition. The competition consisted of 2 rounds, where 83 different colleges from all over India participated including several IIT, NIT and other private institutes. Debarshi & Co. reached the final rounds to present their design along with 15 other finalists on 15th February, 2020 and secured 2nd position. They received prestigious awards from the President of INSDAG Mr. Sushim Banerjee, where Dr. D Bhattacharjee (Vice President of TATA steel); Dr. D K Basak (Chief Engineer of M.N. Dastoor) and a panel of jury members from IIT Kanpur, IIEST Shibpur and other institutes, were also present.
