Encode Steel

14th Dec’18, IIT Bombay

In developed countries a very large percentage of multistoreyed buildings are built with steel whereas steel is not so commonly used in construction of multistoreyed frames in India even though it is a better material than reinforced concrete in different structural aspects. The use of steel in multi-storey building construction results in many advantages for the builder and the user. In this project we have designed a steel intensive composite G+10 Residential Building considering all the design parameters provided in the problem statement.

IIT Bombay, being one of the pioneer institutions of India, the institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. Reputed for the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the institute attracts the best students from the country for its bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes. Research and academic programmes at IIT Bombay are driven by an outstanding faculty, many of whom are reputed for their research contributions internationally.

On December 14th, 2018, they organised a National level Steel structure design challenge, The Encode Steel, in Techfest. Mr. Debarshi Sahoo, Mr. Debdatta Chakraborty, Mr. Sourav Paul & Mr. Sayan Dey from Deyan Infratech participated in the event securing the 2nd best design in India.

The estimated jury members were from resource person from TATA Steel, Sr. Professors from IIT Bombay & other prestigious institutions, who appreciated the economic design & detailing part of the project.
